Bio

Choreography

Joanna Meccia (she/her) is a dance artist, choreographer, and director, with an interest in exploring the human experience through multi-disciplinary dance experiences.

Her choreography has been supported by grants from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, and Activate! Chicago, and performed in theaters such as the Athenaeum Main Stage, Stage773, Links Hall, as well as Chicago Public Schools and public spaces. Most recently, she developed a new work blending film and live dance through Dovetail Studio’s 3for3 Artist Residency. In addition to producing her own work, she has been commissioned for companies including the Trifecta Dance Collective, Project606 Dance, Esoteric Dance Project, and New Dances by Thodos Dance Chicago and Dance Works Chicago. Joanna has choreographed and directed two short films, Cosmic Dust and Streetlight Epiphany, that were featured as official selections for the Short Stack Tiny Film Festival.

Arts Administration

Joanna is passionate about introducing the important work of your non-profit to the right audiences, and has over ten years of experience working in arts administration, specializing in communication and marketing. Employing thoughtful strategy alongside compelling copy and eye-catching design, she is adept in managing social media, designing email campaigns, creating marketing collateral, communicating with press and donors, website maintenance, and more.
